Questions & Answers

Need help deciding? We have gathered these frequently asked questions to help guide your journey and ensure you choose the Isolabona hideaway that perfectly mirrors your needs. Still have a question about the accessibility, bedroom layouts or the best local wine? Ask us directly!

Location & Proximity

How far is Isolabona from Dolceacqua and the Italian Riviera coast?

Isolabona is located just 2km (a 3-minute drive or 20-minute walk) from the historic village of Dolceacqua and the famous Doria Castle. The Italian Riviera coastline, including the beaches of Ventimiglia and Bordighera, is approximately 10km away, a 15-minute drive down the Nervia Valley.

What is the closest airport to your holiday houses in Isolabona?

The closest major international airport is Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) in France. It is roughly 60km from Isolabona, with a travel time of approximately 55 minutes via the A10/A8 motorway.

Can I reach the beach from Isolabona without a car?

Yes. A local bus service (Line 7) connects Isolabona directly to Ventimiglia, where you can access the beaches and the train station for trips to Sanremo or Monaco.

Are the properties located in the medieval "borgo" or the newer part of town?

Our properties are located within the authentic medieval "borgo" (historic center) of Isolabona. You will experience living among ancient stone arches and caruggi, just steps away from the village square. Isolabona is a gem since there is no ‘newer part of town’! The entire village is authentically medieval connected by cobbled tunnels.

Is there free parking available near the houses in Isolabona?

Yes. While the medieval center is pedestrian-only, there is ample free public parking located approximately 5 minute walk from all our properties, primarily along the riverbank and near the village entrance for short stays, or in the large free public car park over near the road that goes up to Apricale (the largest and most popular parking spot) or up on the other side of the village above the grocery stores and pizzeria (follow the steep ramp from the village high-street).

Facilities & Amenities

Is the Wi-Fi fast enough for remote work or video calls?

Yes, we provide Fiber Wi-Fi in our properties but you will find the Wi-Fi is stronger in some parts of the house more than others. Bare with us! The 14th Century thick walls make it difficult to have high-speed Wi-Fi in every single angle, but do not fear - you should be able to connect without problems and use your devices online.

Do the kitchens have everything needed for a long-term self-catering stay?

Our kitchens are equipped for long stays, featuring an induction or gas hob, oven (or oven-box Casa Valentino), dishwasher, Moka pot, and a full set of cookware and utensils.

Is there air conditioning?

No, our houses don’t have air conditioning. In the hot summer months you will find fans in the houses and with the windows open you will feel how the medieval walls and stone will keep you fresh.

Are your properties pet-friendly?

To maintain a high standard of cleanliness for all guests, we have a no-pets policy across all our Isolabona properties.

Do the houses have private outdoor space, like a terrace or balcony?

Yes. Three of our four properties offer private outdoor space: we have two roof terraces and one breakfast balcony. Note: The Principessa Grace apartment is our only unit without private outdoor space.

Local Recommendations

What are the best restaurants within walking distance in Isolabona?

For authentic local dining, we recommend Forno Vecchio for excellent pizza (just a 2-minute walk). For a traditional Ligurian meal, Ristorante Bruno and Le Trote are highly regarded local favorites within the village.

Where is the nearest grocery store or pharmacy?

Everything you need is in the village. There is a well-stocked grocery store and a pharmacy located just a 3-to-5 minute walk from our houses.

Are there hiking trails that start directly from Isolabona?

Yes. Hikers can enjoy trails leading directly from the village to Apricale or Pigna. More adventurous guests can trek toward Monte Toraggio or follow routes leading toward the French border.

What is the best time of year for wine tasting in the Nervia Valley?

The region is famous for Rossese di Dolceacqua and Pigato wines. While tasting is available year-round, the best time for vineyard tours is from May to October, with the vibrant grape harvest (Vendemmia) typically occurring in September.

Are there local festivals or markets in Isolabona?

Summer is "Sagra" season, featuring food festivals, live music, and street parties throughout the Nervia Valley. Additionally, the world-famous Sanremo Music Festival takes place in the neighboring valley every February.

How does check-in work?
